OD Link selects Dante Virtual Soundcard as a Core Audio device on macOS. It sends the audio from that device over its own peer-to-peer connection; it does not transmit Dante protocol traffic between locations.
Prepare the local Dante side
Connect the Mac to the Dante network by Ethernet. Install Dante Virtual Soundcard and Dante Controller, choose the appropriate network interface and start DVS. In Dante Controller, verify device visibility, clock status and sample-rate settings, then subscribe the required source channels to DVS receive channels.
Channel capacity and clock requirements depend on the DVS edition and configuration. Follow Audinate’s Dante Virtual Soundcard setup guide for that local network setup.
Select the device in OD Link
Start OD Link after DVS is running. In Transmit, choose Dante Virtual Soundcard as the Audio Device. Match the sample rate to the local audio setup and choose the connection you want to feed.
For a first check, route DVS inputs 1–2 into OD Link channels 1–2. Use Auto Patch 1:1 only if its assignments match your intended patch. Otherwise select the two crosspoints individually. Confirm that the source reaches OD Link’s input meters before troubleshooting the internet connection.
If DVS does not appear in the picker, check that it is running and relaunch OD Link. More device-selection details are in the Core Audio section of the manual.
Choose the destination at the other Mac
Establish the OD Link connection using UDP Match or direct IP. At the receiving Mac, choose the playback device in Receive and patch incoming channels to its outputs.
The destination can be an ordinary audio interface, the OD Link Virtual Audio driver for a DAW, or DVS for another local Dante network. You do not need DVS at a location that has no Dante input or output.
| Direction | Audio path |
|---|---|
| Dante source to remote Mac | Dante source → DVS input → OD Link Transmit → IP connection → OD Link Receive → selected output device |
| Remote Mac to Dante destination | Remote source → OD Link connection → OD Link Receive → DVS output → Dante destination |
Route received audio back to Dante
For a Dante destination, select DVS as OD Link’s Receive device. Map the incoming channels to the intended DVS outputs. In Dante Controller, subscribe the destination device’s receive channels to those DVS transmit channels. Confirm signal and listen at the destination. See Audinate’s routing instructions.
Keep this return out of any outgoing mix that would send it straight back. Each location still needs its own working local audio setup; the OD Link connection is not a replacement for local Dante routing or clocking.
Check the path in stages
If the source is missing at OD Link’s input, check the local Dante subscription and selected capture device. If the receiver shows signal but the Dante destination is silent, check the OD Link Receive matrix and the destination subscription separately.
Size the patch for the capacity available across the entire route: the OD Link license, DVS configuration and endpoint devices. For dropouts or excessive delay after the local paths work, inspect connection metrics and receive-buffer settings.
